Power supply and failure is a frequent experience that occurs in our mains. Power restoration is a period of time when the electricity supply to a particular building or area is restored, because of replacement or servicing damage to the cables or any other reason.
For us to be notified when the power restoration condition has occurred in our laboratory a power monitoring device is used. This system indicates when there is power resumption in our laboratory through alarm indication. As soon as the system experiences power resumption user will receive a signal from an alarm. The aim of this work is to carry out the building such a device.

1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
In modern society, it is impossible to imagine life without electricity. Modern equipment requires a continuous supply of electricity. Not only industry, but also in the household. Take the case of an ordinary refrigerator. If you experience a power off situation, your food will be spoilt. But much more important, what if the power failure "spoils" your business. For example, uninterrupted power supply is needed for your server, which manages your accounting programme or provides uninterrupted operation of your website (Dobson et al., 2017).
Of course, in most critical applications, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) are used, but this is not always the case. Also, these devices cannot provide continuous operation in the event of remote power off. Often you need to take other action according to the situation.
For us to be notified when the power ON condition has occurred a power monitoring device is used. This system indicates when there is resumption in our mains through alarm indication. As soon as the system experiences power resumption you will receive a signal from an alarm (Dobson et al., 2017). This study discusses mains electricity alert system for laboratory.
1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT
Power failure in laboratory can be irritating, frustrating and devastating, affect lab equipment and at the same time affect the happiness of the laboratory users. It is quite unfortunate that sometimes when power is restored the laboratory users will not be aware most especially when there is noise and no electricity indicator. In other to overcome this problem, this device was designed. This device is designed to inform you when the power is restored in the laboratory.
1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
The main aim of the project is to design a power monitoring device that will trigger a buzzer when the mains supply is restored in the laboratory. The objectives of this work are:
- To indicate that the mains have been restored in the laboratory
- To protect lab equipment from damages.
- To build an electricity supply alerting device
1.4 PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT
The purpose of this work is to build a power monitoring device that monitors power resumption in the laboratory thereby informingthe user to switch off their alternative power supply.
1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT
Laboratory electricity alert system notifies one by alarm when laboratory equipment power supply is restored. If you have important equipment you want to run with mains and want to know if there has been a power supply so that you power the device, this app can help you by telling you when electric power is supplied (Dobson et al., 2017).
Working on this topic has serve as a means of learning how to configure astable and monostablemultivibrator.
1.6 APPLCATION OF THE PROJECT
Typical uses of electricity alert system include monitoring (Peter, 2014):
* fridges/freezers;
* fish tanks/aquariums;
* sump pumps;
* computer equipment;
* heating systems;
* chemical storage;
* and many other applications.
1.7 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
The scope of this work focused on building a device that will alert the user a buzzer when the mains supply is restored in the laboratory. At the same time, the light emitting diode will be turned ON. Once the buzzer sound, one will know that there is restoration in the laboratory (Peter, 2014).
1.8 METHODOLOGY
To achieve the aim and objectives of this work, the following are the steps involved:
- Study of the previous work on the project so as to improve it efficiency.
- Draw a block diagram.
- Test for continuity of components and devices,
- Design of the alarm was carried out.
- Studying of various component used in circuit.
- Construct the circuit.
- Finally, the whole device was cased and final test was carried out.
1.9 PROJECT WORK ORGANISATION
The work is organized as follows: chapter one discuses the introductory part of the work, chapter two presents the literature review of the study, chapter three describes the methods applied, chapter four discusses the results of the work, chapter five summarizes the research outcomes and the recommendations.
CHAPTER FIVE
5.1 CONCLUSION
At the end of this work, the aim of the construction was achieved which is to design alarm circuit will alert you whenever there's a power supply in the laboratory. In some special conditions it becomes imperative to know whether the mains that powers some important system or circuit is present or absent.
5.2 RECOMMENDATION
This project is designed to be used in homes and industries and wherever the need for an indication of power supply is needed. And should be used and maintain by a qualified personnel.
