DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF SOLAR DRYER : This work is titled design and construction of a solar dryer. Solar dryers are devices that use solar energy to dry substances, especially food. The solar drying system utilizes solar energy to heat up air and to dry any food substance loaded, which is not only beneficial in that it reduces wastage of agricultural produce and helps in preservation of agricultural produce, but it also makes transportation of such dried produce easy and promotes the health and welfare of the people. This paper presents the design and construction of a domestic passive solar food dryer. The dryer is composed of solar collector (air heater) and a solar drying chamber containing rack of four cheese cloth (net) trays both being integrated together. Supplying air manually will reduce productivity and more man hour to accomplish a given task.

Each grain of abrasive on the wheel's surface cuts a small chip from the workpiece via shear deformation.
Grinding machine consists of a bed with a fixture to guide and hold the work piece, and a power-driven grinding wheel spinning at the required speed. The speed is determined by the wheel’s diameter and manufacturer’s rating. The grinding head can travel across a fixed work piece, or the work piece can be moved while the grind head stays in a fixed position.
Fine control of the grinding head or table position is possible using a vernier calibrated hand wheel, or using the features of numerical controls.
Grinding machines remove material from the work piece by abrasion, which can generate substantial amounts of heat. To cool the work piece so that it does not overheat and go outside its tolerance, grinding machines incorporate a coolant. The coolant also benefits the machinist as the heat generated may cause burns. A hydraulic jack uses a fluid, which is incompressible, that is forced into a cylinder by a pump plunger. Oil is used since it is self lubricating and stable. When the plunger pulls back, it draws oil out of the reservoir through a suction check valve into the pump chamber. When the plunger moves forward, it pushes the oil through a discharge check valve into the cylinder. The suction valve ball is within the chamber and opens with each draw of the plunger. The discharge valve ball is outside the chamber and opens when the oil is pushed into the cylinder. At this point the suction ball within the chamber is forced shut and oil pressure builds in the cylinder.

Stirling engine operates by cyclic compression and expansion of air or other gas (the working fluid) at different temperatures, such that there is a net conversion of heat energy to mechanical work. THE FABRICATION OF A SINGLE FACE PRESSURIZED KEROSENE COOKER: This project is concerned with the fabrication of as a single face pressurized kerosene cooker. The pressurized kerosene cooker used a wick to supply liquid fuel to the burner by capillary action. The burner vaporized the kerosene in a loop of pipe which rose up from the fuel tank at the stove's base, and which was pre-heated with alcohol (or "methylated spirits") before being combusted in the burner. Initial pressure is provided by a small, hand operated pump integrated into the stove's fuel tank. The flame on a Primus stove is adjusted by using the pump to increase the pressure in the tank to make the flame larger, or by venting the tank to reduce the pressure and make the flame smaller. DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A VACUUM PUMP: A vacuum pump is a device that removes gas molecules from a sealed volume in order to leave behind a partial vacuum. Positive displacement pumps use a mechanism to repeatedly expand a cavity, allow gases to flow in from the chamber, seal off the cavity, and exhaust it to the atmosphere. Momentum transfer pumps, also called molecular pumps, use high speed jets of dense fluid or high speed rotating blades to knock gas molecules out of the chamber. Entrapment pumps capture gases in a solid or adsorbed state. This includes cryopumps, getters, and ion pumps.
Positive displacement pumps are the most effective for low vacuums. Momentum transfer pumps in conjunction with one or two positive displacement pumps are the most common configuration used to achieve high vacuums. In this configuration the positive displacement pump serves two purposes. First it obtains a rough vacuum in the vessel being evacuated before the momentum transfer pump can be used to obtain the high vacuum, as momentum transfer pumps cannot start pumping at atmospheric pressures. Second the positive displacement pump backs up the momentum transfer pump by evacuating to low vacuum the accumulation of displaced molecules in the high vacuum pump. Entrapment pumps can be added to reach ultrahigh vacuums, but they require periodic regeneration of the surfaces that trap air molecules or ions. Due to this requirement their available operational time can be unacceptably short in low and high vacuums, thus limiting their use to ultrahigh vacuums. AUTOMATIC CONVEYOR FOR INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION: In this project we have to control the conveyor automatically by sensing the objects placed in the conveyor. Also, by using RPM sensor we have to control the speed the motor. The number of tags handled by the conveyor on the whole will be displayed simultaneously along with regulating the speed of conveyor. This project will save the power of motor operating the conveyor by regulating the conveyor automation, i.e. the conveyor actuates only when a tag is sensed.
Dynamic environments pose a challenge to the read performances of current RPM control systems. Moving tags on a conveyor belt affect the read performance of a static reader. Our project attempts to evaluate a static reader identifying moving tags on a conveyor belt. We propose an algorithm enabling the conveyor belt to dynamically adjust its speed according to the load automatically, also it reliably identify tags without prior knowledge of how tags are distributed on the conveyor belt. We show by simulations that our algorithm yields more than 99% of tags being successfully identified, along with trying to maximize the average speed of the conveyor belt. In addition, the algorithm can be applied for different reader's ranges. DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF A FOUNDRY SAND MIXER USING LOCALLY AVAILABLE MATERIALS: Most small foundry shops mix their sand manually which is not efficient since homogenous mix cannot be guaranteed and even when foundry mixer are available most of them are imported costing the nation huge foreign exchange. A foundry sand mixer capable of mixing foundry sand has been designed and fabricated using locally available material. The sand mixer components machine frame, mixing pan, motor support, gear box speed reducer, Shaft, discharge door and Mixing blades were designed ,produced and assembled together to produce the mixer. A step-turned shaft of diameters 23mm and 33mm attached to a 2hp, 3 phase electric motor to transmit the torque required to effectively turn and mix the sand in the pan. DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF MELON DE HUSKING SEPERATION MACHINE: Melons are grown in Nigeria not for their pulp which is bitter, but for their seeds which are particularly rich in protein and fat, in addition to essential vitamins and minerals. The seeds are shelled to obtain the cotyledons and two methods (impact and attrition) were identified for carrying out this process. A machine was designed for each method and an optimal speed of 1000rpm selected after testing. Dehusking at an impeller speed between 1400–1800 rpm at moisture content  of  16.47%  ±2 resulted to high percentage breakage ranging from 40 - 80%.  However,  using  an  optimal  speed  of  1000rpm,  percentage breakage was reduced to 12% for impact principle and 1% for attrition. Percentage undehusked for both  methods was 10%, while percentage separation of dehusked shell from the white seed was 60% for impact and 70% for attrition.
